Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On March 31, 2022, just three weeks after her 19th birthday, and the day after she proudly received her GED, our daughter, Sophia was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer.  It is so unusual to see breast cancer stike someone her age.  The odds are literally 1 in a million.  Though we don’t know much about Sophia’s early life in Haiti, we do know she was orphaned before she was 4.  She has no memory of her biological mother.  It is very possible that her mother’s young life was cut short from breast cancer.  Her biological father died  a few months before she was 4.  Sophia is a survivor.  She survived the 2010 earthquake and we were able to get her home to live with our family just 12 days later.  Sophia was about to turn 7.  She started school mid-year, knowing no English.  But thanks to a fantastic kindergarten teacher and reading specialist, within months Sophia was speaking and reading English and graduated kindergarten.  She is a bright and eager learner.  We are now embarking in yet another fight for her life.
