Dani was injured in a mountain biking accident on Sunday, June 17, 2018. She is currently in UNM Medical Center in the neuroscience center.
To learn how this all happened, you can jump ahead in the journal to the day I describe that fateful morning. https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/sierrapedroza/journal/view/id/5b2d135d4e2c8cb32e22784d
The first 2 days updates were posted on Facebook. It wasn't until Day 3 until we started Caring Bridge. These were the first 2 days posts:
I'm debating with myself how to update so many friends and family. Dani had a mountain bike accident today and had to be air lifted to the trauma center at UNM in Albuquerque. They're prepping a room for her right now and all i can do is sit in the waiting room. I'm a little overwhelmed right now trying to keep close family and friends updated. I do believe she's out of life threatening trouble though. Just keep her in your thoughts and believe that God is looking over her.
I would like to give a more detailed update of how Dani is doing but I'll keep it brief. There was no brain swelling overnight, which is great, but no improvement either. she's resting now and will go through more neuro testing soon. Thank you all for the immense outpouring of support, this is the most difficult time in both of our lives. We love you all and will hopefully be home soon.
June 18 Update
As I write this, Dani is in surgery to remove a small portion of bone from her skull to relieve pressure at the base of her head. This part controls breathing and speech and is one of the main sources of the headache she complained about yesterday. They expect more swelling so now she will be prepared. They did intubate her because of the breathing risk, so I'm sure she's annoyed with that. She still responds well to us talking to her and can still squeeze my hand. My support crew is now here to help me. Thank you, Leigh, Amy, Joe and Rick. Also thanks to everyone who has messaged me. Don't be offended if i don't get back to you asap, I'm a bit flooded with literally hundreds of messages of love and support. Keep them coming. Thanks for keeping me sane, my life is incomplete without Dani.
June 18 Last update of the night:
The doctor says all went as planned. ct scan scheduled for 830 to monitor the drain. next 12 hours can be critical. We're at the hotel for now having a sandwich picnic in their lobby but will be going back soon. Love you all, more tomorrow.
