Welcome to Shirley's CaringBridge website. We have created it so that special family and friends can stay up-to-date on Mom's progress in fighting cancer, and cheer her on as she does!
2017 began in an unexpected way for her and our whole family. In mid-January, Mom noticed a small lump on her right breast. A few exams and one biopsy later, she was diagnosed with Large Diffuse B-Cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, an aggressive form of blood cancer. Fortunately, it was diagnosed early.
After two medical opinions in San Antonio and in Houston, she decided to enroll in a clinical trial at MD Anderson. The trial involves 8 cycles of both immunotherapy and chemotherapy during March-July. The overall trial has shown promising results so far, including for other patients similar in profile to Mom. So we are hopeful.
As with everything else in her life, Mom is ready to face this and beat it. She will have good days and bad days. As her medical team works to heal her body, we are committed to sustaining what makes her most special to all of us: her spirit.
Mom talks all the time about how much she values her friends and family. So please join her, and us, in this crusade to help her overcome cancer. Feel free to post comments, photographs and anything else you can think of to let her know you are thinking about her.
