Family and friends, there comes a time in everyone’s life when we need the love and support of those close to us more than at any other time; such as time has come to our family. On Friday, Jan 27, my sweet mother, Shirley McCormick, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. After not feeling well for a few weeks, a CT scan revealed the presence of tumors in her pancreas and liver. We met with the oncologist yesterday. He said that because the cancer has spread outside of the pancreas, it is inoperable. She will begin chemotherapy as soon as we know specifically what type of pancreatic cancer it is.

She is scheduled for a bone scan on Friday, 2/3, and a needle biopsy of the liver on Tuesday, 2/7. We will meet with the doctor again on Thursday, 2/9, to find out the game plan. The needle biopsy will tell us exactly what type of pancreatic cancer we are dealing with and allow the doctor (and us) to determine the best treatment plan.

Currently we plan to do all treatments through the Cancer Center in Bryan. This is a highly recommended facility with well-respected doctors and nurses. We feel confident she will receive the best care here and are happy that she can stay close to home throughout the treatment process.

What we ask of you is that you pray. We believe that God is sovereign and holds each of us in the palm of His hand. Everything we experience, both good and bad, we experience because it is His will. Just as Job experienced great trials in his life, we all experience great trials from time to time. The test, given by Satan, is not in the trial, but in our response to it. Through the prayer and support each of you give us, we know that we will find the comfort, peace, and strength we need to persevere no matter what may come our way.

Of course, we will keep you all updated as we get more information. Our support system is, by far, the best in the world, and we appreciate each of you so very much.
