Mom was surrounded by her loving family for our Christmas party ten days ago. It was so much fun for all. Mom had a wonderful time. At age 93 she's done a great job of keeping up with such an active bunch.
Recently mom just hasn't had her usual pep. Today we learned that mom has Stage 4 lung cancer that has spread to her bones. This cancer is the most common type of lung cancer. It is very aggressive and not curable; chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy and surgery are not options. The Oncology specialists at Abbott Hospital in Minneapolis have recommended a genetic testing therapy called "tailored therapy" that involves gene matching. If the specialists find a treatable gene, mom will take a daily pill that will slow the progression and should ease mom's discomfort. We have agreed to proceed with this therapy.
We will keep you updated once the blood results arrive in about three weeks.
Mom has been very tired. She remains in good spirits (as always!). If you'd like to visit her please call Shady Knoll first at this number: 715-463-5425.
