Shelli Knapp's Journey
Oct 21, 2016
Journal updated by Shelli's children, Ricky & Carole Anne. Thanks for caring.
Our mom had what appeared to be a irritated skin tag on her inner-upper thigh. On October 13, 2016 she went to her Primary Care Physician to get some ointment for this skin tag. After her doctor examined her, he sent her immediately to another doctor the same day. Dr. Joseph Sheppe, a colon and rectal surgeon. This was alarming to our mom, as she sat in the waiting area of Dr. Sheppe's office she knew something must be wrong. Dr. Sheppe examined her and informed her she had cancer. He could tell by the shape & color of the mass. Shocked. Saddened. Alone. Scared.
This is where her journey began. She was immediately scheduled for a colonoscopy Monday, October 17th to see if cancer had spread to colon. Good news from surgeon, colon looks good. Two days later she had surgery to remove the mass at Baptist Hospital in Columbia SC. Mass and two polips were sent to Pathology. Results due back Monday Oct 24th. This will inform us of the "stage" her cancer is in. She will meet with Oncologist on Friday, October 28th At SCOA to have PET scan and to learn of her upcoming chemo and radiation schedule.
