Hi Family and Friends,                23 January 2014

Well we REALLY did not want to do another posting but regretfully it seems that cancer has reentered our lives! Shawn just found out during the holidays that his cancer has come back.....interestingly after he was told he was cancer free for two straight check ups?!

We realized something was wrong back in early September when Shawn's voice was deteriorating? In fact, eventually we found out that one of his two vocal cords was paralyzed and this impacted his speech...can you imagine Shawn having a problem talking???? Anyways it seems that 2.5 years ago the surgery and all worked, except a micro tumor escaped to a lymph node outside his radiation field. Yeah I know a bit technical. Well that damn micro tumor has been growing since May of 2011!!!!! It impacted his speech and one thing lead to another. He has stage 4 cancer BUT, this has not been diagnosed as TERMINAL stage 4 cancer. In fact, Shawn is starting aggressive radiation and chemo treatments within days. AND contrary to what had been suggested to us before it does appear there is a chance that  surgery also could be an option. The tumor is about two inches in size and in his throat.

So, we are back on Caring Bridge and ready to ramp it up again!!! We have the same attitude as before about cancer, it is evil and we are taking this personal. Our faith is stronger then ever, the drs. in most part are the same team, although we are (at this writing) waiting for one more component to get on board, and we feel optimistic about the challenges that await us.

Sadly, we also want to mention that Shawn's mom, Dot has also been diagnosed with a tough form of cancer as well. So many of you know her, she is a rock to us all and has lived her life with class, dignity and honesty. We are looking forward to "life with her" for some time to come.

We have virtually no fear or anxiety as we know that with a fighting chance, medical science and FAITH we will prevail.

So.....here we go again, "round two"!!

Love to you all and thank you for your support.
