Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.

Summary:

Sharon’s diagnosis was invasive ductal carcinoma. ( Breast cancer). This was found on a routine screening mammogram. ( Nov /Dec 2021). Bilateral mastectomy with expanders placed for reconstruction on Dec 17,2021.

Lymph node negative and no spread anywhere else, hence no chemo or radiation. Yaayyy!

Sharon thinks she’s getting through this whole thing with a pretty good deal, overall. After surgery the cancer should be cured, plus she gets a free boob job from Anthem.

But life throws curve balls.

Infection of (BOTH) expanders Jan 2022 ( 2 different bacteria. If only she had good hygiene…)

Admission for surgical removal of expanders, irrigation of antimicrobial solution for 5 days in the hospital, a third surgery, this one to insert maybe a cleaner set of expanders (😄) 2 d recovery, then home on Feb 5th to start the recovery she should have started Dec 18.

Summary lesson: we are SO not in charge of much that happens in our life. We are only in charge of how we respond to it.
