Obituary

Sharon Elizabeth Klotz, born on April 26, 1957, in Davenport, Iowa, passed away on March 10th, 2021, at the age of 63. Sharon grew up in Peoria, Illinois and Dunlap, Illinois.

While attending high school in Dunlap, Sharon and her family were involved in the AFS program which allowed them to host several students from around the world. Through her reciprocated exchange, she was given the opportunity to visit South Africa where she developed a life-long love for giraffes. She continued to stay connected with many of the friends she made throughout most of her life through AFS, whom were located in such far-off places such as Finland, New Zealand and South Africa.

After high school she moved to Laramie, Wyoming where she received her Bachelor of Science in History from the University of Wyoming. Sharon started her career with Kmart as a merchandizing manager, after which she moved to Sprint where she did product development. She had the opportunity to settle down briefly in Overland Park, Kansas with her husband Kevin where they welcomed two beautiful children, Daniel and Anne. After Sprint moved her back to Denver, she continued to work in the telecommunications industry with Mountain Bell and then Qwest.

Sharon loved supporting young women in her community and was an active member of P.E.O. Chapter IO in Broomfield, CO, was a founding member of PEO Chapter JD in Overland Park, KS, and a past President of Denver Area Cottey Club. She was very active in her kids’ lives where she facilitated the creation of a new Girl Scout troop for her daughter, acted as the director of popcorn sales for her son’s Boy Scout troop, produced the newsletter for the very same Boy Scout troop, and published the International Baccalaureate newsletters for six years for her kids’ high school.

Sharon is survived by her husband Kevin, her son Daniel, and her daughter Anne. Sharon was a direct descendent of the historic Boone family which she treasured greatly. She was preceded in death by her father John Phillips. Her mother, Judy Phillips resides in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
