Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most.

Mom's cancer journey began after a proactive recommendation from her PCP, Dr. David Cantrell, who suggested she have a Cologuard Test done.  The Cologuard came back irregular so a follow up Colonoscopy was ordered with Dr. Anna Longacre.  On December 22nd, Dr. Longacre attempted to do the colonoscopy but was not able to complete it due to a blockage that she found in mom's colon. Dr. Longacre referred mom to get a Virtual Colonoscopy which helped to explain that the mass creating the blockage in mom's colon was actually not in her colon but in her peritoneum, the membrane lining the cavity of the abdomen and covering the abdominal organs.  Dr. Longacre and Dr. Oyola (mom's existing oncologist treating her CMML/ Leukemia) conferred that Dr. Sartaj Sanghera would be the Oncology Surgeon.  Dr. Sanghera ordered a CT with IV Contrast and subsequently sent mom to get a CT Guided Needle Biopsy with an Interventional Radiologist so we would know what type of cancer she had.  It was then determined that she had Ovarian Cancer.  Dr. Amy Carroll, a Gynecologic Oncologist, was brought in as a specialist and second surgeon.  Both Dr. Carroll and Dr. Sanghera did Fellowships and were graduate students at MD Anderson.
