Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.

As most of you know Shari has courageously battled Lung Cancer for over a decade.  Thanks to the grace of a loving and merciful God, he has provided a remarkable physician and healthcare team at Emory that has been His hands and feet in providing treatments to afford Shari many years and memories with us here.  Shari has been one of her Physician's most successful patients in the treatment of the type of cancer she has had.  God has been good.

Soldiering through 3  brain surgeries and countless treatments all while providing loving support and care for Mike who was also struggling with his own health issues, Shari and Mike have been the picture of faith and have not waivered in their testimony to Christ's goodness and provision for them in all of the challenges.

Shortly after Mike's homegoing, Shari began to have some pain that caused concern.  A visit to the care team lead to the decision to do Proton Therapy, a very targeted radiation treatment to try to arrest an aggressive move of cancer in her spinal fluid and brain.  Shari and Cami went daily, 5 days a week for 5 weeks to the Proton Center for treatments, completed only a few weeks ago.   Following treatment, Shari's energy and vitality declined.  Many of you helped by coming by to encourage Shari and try to get her moving and eating more in hopes this would serve as a much-needed pick-me-up.  When all human efforts had been exhausted, Cami took Shari to the hospital on Friday, April 22.

While scans to determine the success of the Proton Therapy are not usually done until a couple of months after the treatment, the admitting team began running scans and tests to see what the issues were.  Sadly, the news was not what we hoped.  The treatments had not been effective.  The family came to the hard decision to discontinue any further treatment and bring Shari home to the apartment at Solana on Hospice Care.

Shari is relieved to have the challenging and often uncomfortable treatments behind her.  While everyone was not expecting this so soon, especially after Mike's homegoing, Shari is looking forward to seeing him and her Savior soon.  Everyone is treasuring each moment and the family invites you to reach out by phone and for a visit.  We all want her to be surrounded by those she loves in the weeks ahead.  You know Shari loves you all and loves people and life.  Do not hesitate to pop in.  If she is resting, wake her up.  She'd always rather be visiting!  We may try out the "schedule" feature of Caring Bridge to let people know when we need someone to visit during a specific time frame.  But do not hesitate to call or visit when you are available.  God is good and we covet and appreciate all of your prayers and support.
