Sharon Baker Shar and Pedro

On July 1, 2020, I had an appointment with my nurse practitioner, Dyan Thompson.  Pete and I had set appointment as soon as a coloration anomaly was seen on my left boob.

An Ultra-Sound Guided Biopsy followed the digital, diagnostic mammogram & ultrasound.  The results of the biopsy were provided on Tuesday, July 14th:  invasive carcinoma of the left breast.  We scheduled an appointment with Dr. Diana Medgyesy at Cancer Care and Hematology through UC Health, which was set for Friday, July 24th.

A series of appointments were scheduled; the next most disturbing result was shown on the Lymph Node Biopsy, July 28th, indicating cancer present.  A device called the Savi Scout was inserted as a “primary marker” along with other pathological markers.  We are rather officially on our journey to ultimate recovery, and a cure, for the cancer.

We met our surgeon, Dr. James Dickinson, on Wednesday, July 29th.  The echocardiogram on Friday indicated good heart function; an MRI occurs on Monday, August 3rd.  We attend an educational appointment on Thursday, August 6th; and finally, a virtual appointment with Dr. Medgyesy on Friday, August 7th.

Chemo infusion begins on Tuesday, August 11th.

Already, our Lord has placed very important people in our midst:  Sharon, a cancer survivor, along with her husband, Roger, from Redeemer, are fabulous (God-picked, we believe!).  Having now been equipped with a Cancer Kit, including incredible resources (books, a water bottle, a 24/7 phone number, and a beautiful PINK prayer shawl—it has the cancer symbol crocheted into the pattern!).  Those who have known me for even a little while realize I do not like Pink!  I don’t even have a pink pair of underwear—that will soon change!  My cousin, Lori, affirmed, however, that since “pink is not me, neither is cancer!”

Anxiety, yes!  Stress, yes!  An overwhelming sense—like tidal waves at times, yes!  In the midst:  His Peace!  Our claimed Scripture:  Numbers 6:24-26.

My husband, handpicked by God our Father, is Pete.  Most need no introduction!  His humor, his relentless support, his believing in me in times that I thought no one else did; and his faith in Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, are only a few (albeit the most important) of the characteristics of the man that I truly love beyond measure, and to whom I have been married 43 years on September 2, 2020!

We want you brought on board quickly.  Updates to Caring Bridge will be done by my husband, and my sister, Karen.  By the way, Karen & I went wig-shopping this past Friday evening!  I love you, Karen, and I know you are in this with me, or I should say, with us!Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
