Hi there friends and family- I wanted to share a few things as we start this new year. I have been diagnosed with breast cancer.  Before anyone asks, yes I have kept up with my mammograms and had a clear scan in May 2019. This past Christmas I felt an unusual sensation for a few days. I had been putting away all the Christmas decorations, so lifting and moving a lot, so did not think much of it. A few days later the sensation was back and I felt a small lump. I saw my Doctor at the first of the year. I was then sent for another mammogram and ultrasound. The mammogram still showed nothing, However, 10 minutes later in the ultrasound room the mass was discovered!!

Next steps- biopsy, pathology report confirmed breast cancer. The last few weeks I have been in shock, in disbelief and a bunch of other feelings and words I probably should not share. It’s been a whirlwind of more tests, imaging and Doctor appointments this past week.

I am in the midst of meeting with my Oncologist and surgeon together creating a plan for my treatment. The oncology surgeon did tell me I should give a myself a pat on the back. Most women would’ve thought "I just had a mammogram six months ago I’ll just wait another six months for my next one"  I listened to my body and got in immediately.

I will continue to journal and keep everyone updated through this Caring Bridge site.

Right now, I ask for positive thoughts and prayers, and specifically strength and peace for me and the girls.

Love, Shannon
