Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. Sebastian was seen 12/11/19 at his doctors for a well visit check as he was fighting a cold. During the exam his pediatrician discovered a "pouch" on his right side of his belly. She sent us to radiology which was on 12/20/19 to have a ultrasound. From there they rushed a CAT scan and to get blood work done to test his AFP tumor mark. Which was schld for 12/26/19 By 12/27/19 we were confirmed to have a little boy with Hepatoblastoma Cancer who has a 12x11x7 tumor attached to his Liver. His Hematology / oncology doctor took his case to the surgeons at Pennstate Hershey on 12/30/19 where they would decide his plan of care. By 12/31/19, We were told he needed to have chemotherapy (1-2 cycles) before they would do Surgery and resection his liver and take the tumor out. His tumor is too big and in front of a major vein that they do not want to risk anything.
We got schld for 1/3/20 for a bisopy(to get final confirmation ) ,his port put in (under his skin and that's how they will administer his chemo and or do blood work) and he needed to be checked for his kidneys. We will soon begin our chemotherapy journey.  Hepatoblastoma is a rare tumor (an abnormal tissue growth) that originates in cells in the liver. It is the most common cancerous (malignant) liver tumor in early childhood. Most hepatoblastoma tumors begin in the right lobe of the liver.  We will keep our family and friends posted through this website! We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.
