I started this site to keep friends and family members updated on my preparation for and recovery from my open heart surgery, and to help reduce the stress on Lauren.
I am currently scheduled for an aortic valve replacement and replacement of my ascending aorta on May 25th at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio with Dr. Lars Svensson.

As a child, I was diagnosed with a bicuspid aortic valve, which is a congenital heart defect. I was told then that I would most likely need a replacement valve at some point in my life. My symptoms began occurring last September and began to worsen through December. On January 3rd, I visited my primary care physician and had an abnormal EKG and chest X-ray and was referred to a Cardiologist. Since then, I have had an echocardiogram, a transesophageal echocardiogram, five CT Scans, one MRI, venous and arterial heart catheterizations, several visits to Methodist Germantown Hospital including an overnight stay, and countless visits and phone calls to doctors. I would like to thank Dr. Ferguson, Dr. Salazar, Dr. Diaz, Dr. Gardner and Dr. Cash as well as the many other doctors, nurses and staff that have had or will have a hand in my treatment and recovery process.
My number one request from anyone that wants information regarding the surgery or recovery is that they please check this site before reaching out to Lauren. We plan to update this site twice daily for the first few days post-op.
We will be leaving for Cleveland on May 21st. Most of the preoperative testing will occur on the May 23rd and surgery is on the 25th. An estimated release from the hospital is May 30th or 31st. I will remain in Cleveland until approximately June 10th.
