On November 29th, 2018, I went in for my annual physical and the doctors noticed my white blood cells, red blood cells and hemoglobin were very low. After 37 vials of blood, 2 bone marrow biopsies and several tests, the doctors determined I most likely have MDS.
MDS: Myelodysplastic syndromes are a rare group of disorders in which your body no longer makes enough healthy blood cells. You might sometimes hear it called a "bone marrow failure disorder." This is a bone marrow cancer.
The doctors have confirmed that the MDS I have is 'High Risk.' This means that I am at a high risk of turning into Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). My treatment plan will include chemo and potentially a 'trial' drug. The reality is the only cure is for a stem cell (bone marrow) transplant. My siblings are being tested to see if they are a match. If not, then the doctors will search the 5 million plus world-wide registry to see if there is a match for me.
I love my family and believe in the power of prayer. Pray for my family and help me crush this thing. My focus is to beat this bastard. I will do my part. I will keep myself physically, mentally and spiritually fit to get through the next year. I have too much good to offer this world, and I am ready to fight.
