Scott Gehler Scott's Transplant Trek

First post: Aug 2, 2022 Latest post: Jan 5, 2023

Scott has a genetic kidney disorder called Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD).  Over time multiple cysts grow on the kidneys which disrupt their ability to effectively filter the blood.  Eventually, a kidney transplant is needed to improve function and quality of life.  His mother underwent transplant surgery almost 20 years ago for PKD and now it is his turn. On August 4th, 2022 he will be undergoing a kidney transplant at the University of Iowa with a donation from a graduate school friend.  He is fortunate to be blessed by this gift before the need for dialysis arose and was able to set a date and prepare for much as one can prepare for a life-changing event.
