Scott MacKenzie Scott's Journey to Health

First post: Apr 18, 2016 Latest post: Dec 31, 2016

Scott just turned 53 in January, 2016; we have been traveling life’s path together over the last 32 years and have been surrounded by the love and strength of our family and many friends.

On Feb 26, 2016 Scott was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma, an aggressive throat cancer that will require an intensive, aggressive treatment approach and a very strong will to fight the cancer.  The treatment plan will consist of a one time, eight week treatment cycle of Radiation and Chemotherapy, which will start in the next week, followed by an extensive recovery period.

Our daughter Kandice recently set up a ‘Go Fund Me’ website to help relieve the extra financial burden of the travel, accommodations and medical expenses, if you would like to make a donation please follow this link to the ‘Go Fund Me’ page: https://www.gofundme.com/hsztpt8c

Note - any donations made on the Caring Bridge website will go directly to this organization and will not be directed to Scott.  Donations made to the Go Fund Me website will go directly to the MacKenzie's. The Caring Bridge site is also to be commended as it is providing us with a platform to share our story.

Radiation therapy is not available in Kamloops so we will be travelling and staying in Kelowna where he will have radiation therapy daily Mon-Fri for eight weeks.  He will also receive a very strong Chemotherapy regime intermittently during this time.  He will be hospitalized in Kelowna for each of these treatments.  We hope he will have the strength to travel back home on the weekends.

We have been given many percentages, lists of possible side effects and unfavourable outcomes, and survival has taken on a new meaning.  If you know us at all, you know we are not going to take this laying down.  This is not where we will focus our energies as we start this most challenging journey to health.  We are 'all in' and welcome each of you to join us in this fight.  We do believe in positive energy and have certainly felt the strength many of you have already shared with us this past few weeks, the ongoing support will help to keep us strong.

Emotions are running very high now and as we embark on this fight against cancer.  It is very difficult to try and stay in touch with everyone and provide regular updates so we thought by starting this ‘caring bridge’ website it would help Scott share his health journey.  We will try to enter journal posts often and welcome those who have chosen to follow this journey with us to add their posts and pictures to his journal through the Caring Bridge.  Please feel free to pass this link on to others.
