Leukemia - not the news we expected or wanted, but it is where we find ourselves nonetheless. This past Monday, what we thought was normal back pain for Scott turned into a 3-day, 2-hospital, 2-clinic run that landed us in Vanderbilt Medical Center with a diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The good news is the doctors think they caught it very quickly and are confident we can get this thing....

Yesterday, Scott had a bone marrow biopsy to determine the specific genetics of this leukemia; the results will determine the specific treatment course, which will definitely include an aggressive chemotherapy regimen. Many other tests, pokes, and prods were performed to make sure his other organs are able to handle the treatment and to give doctors a baseline. The great news is that Scott feels great so far. His sense of humor is in full force and he has charmed all of the doctors and nurses. God used a back pain on Monday to encourage him to visit urgent care where blood tests revealed a critically low blood platelet level. Miraculously, the back pain subsided that same day. The entire medical team (and there have been dozens already) has been amazing. They have shown genuine care and compassion for our family.

We are boldly praying for healing and know that God can and will be glorified through this journey. We have been reminded in such a powerful way of the importance of “keeping the main thing…the main thing” – that main thing is our relationship with the Lord. He is good! Our family is praying through Psalm 23 daily and would love for you to join in that alongside us. Thank you for praying, encouraging, and loving us in such an impactful way!

Hope because of Christ,
Scott and Kathy
