Thank you everyone for caring and loving Scott. Here’s what’s been going on... about a month ago, he started having a terrible cough. After being treated for allergies and pneumonia, he had a bronchoscopy at St Luke’s in Duluth on Thursday August 1 was diagnosed with Blastomycosis- a fungal infection growing in his lungs. The blasto had progressed quickly and he was unable to breathe on his own. He suffered 3 cardiac arrests due to stress on his body. A vent was placed, but he still needed support of a machine. The U of M hospital has a machine called an ECMO. This machine is basically a lung bypass machine. The ECMO team flew to Duluth, the ports were placed into Scott and they loaded him on the life flight back to Minneapolis U of M. Since being here, his oxygen levels, blood pressure levels, and heart rate have continued to vary. From what we have been told by the nurses and doctors, this is not unusual and may last for 2-6 weeks. He is in an induced coma, but we he has been taken off of the paralytic and he should start to become more aware soon. Scott’s kidneys have also taken a hit from all the issues that this illness has caused. He is currently having a port placed for dialysis. We thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers.
