We are starting this site as an easy way to send updates on Kurt and Kylie.
Something I (Julie) struggled with about moving to Haiti was the lack of medical care in an emergency. You can't dial 911 and expect an ambulance to quickly show up and take you on a fast smooth drive to a hospital that has all the medical equipment and medicines you need to give you the absolute best care. God has shown me that He is bigger than any ambulance and he is bigger than a hospital with the best care.
Wednesday evening February 2, Kurt was driving home on a 4 wheeler with Kylie and Nathaniel. Kurt drove past our gate turned around and was coming back to turn into our gate when suddenly the 4 wheeler shot off in the opposite direction. We do not know for sure what happened but something went wrong. The 4 wheeler broke through a barb wire fence, drove over a cliff, and fell about 20 ft landing on a concert pad. Josiah watched all this happen from the deck. The three older boys ran down to the site and I quickly called other missionaries to come help. Josiah came back up and said, "Mom, you've got to do something! Isn't there an ambulance you can call?" I said, "Josiah, there is no ambulance to call. Britney and Tina are coming." Then they started telling me what they saw, The 4 wheeler was on Kurt and he was just laying there not moving; Kylie was laying there not moving but she was breathing. There was blood around her head and her eyes were black. Nathaniel was crying and he just had a scratched up face and little gash in his chin. Gabe quickly took care of Nathaniel cleaning his face wounds and putting bandaids on them. Josiah went back down to the accident to try to help. There was nothing more I could do but pray. In a lot of Haitian churches the people raise their hands during the worship service. I was not raised that way; it's out of my comfort zone so I usually sit there with my hands folded nicely before me. During that time when I had no idea what was going on our what kind of shape Kurt and Kylie were in I found myself walking around the house lifting my hands to heaven and the words in my heart, "You are my strength when I am weak, You are the shelter that I seek, You are my all in all."
