On December 10th Savannah was playing her heart out on the basketball court, when she fell and injured her left shoulder. Originally the trainer, Katie Dahl was called to check her out and for some reason (luckily) Dr. Curt Louwagie was called over as well. Dr. Louwagie observed some symptoms; droopy eye, shoulder pain, and a cough. He recommended she come to his office the following morning for an exam. He diagnosed Savannah with Horner's Syndrome. In order to find the cause of the Horner's Syndrome, he ordered a CT Scan. A mass was found in her upper chest and over to her left shoulder. In order to get a diagnosis, she went to McKennan in Sioux Falls and had a biopsy done. We received the biopsy results on Christmas Eve that Savannah has Diffused Large B Cell Lymphoma. We were referred to Dr. Callaway, an oncologist at Sanford Children's Hospital. She was admitted December 26th where additional tests were ordered to definitively decide which lymphoma subgroup she has. Dr. Callaway is almost certain it is Primary Medinstinal B- Cell Lymphoma.
