Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Hello caring friends and family, I am creating this site so that you all can be updated on the latest progress of my/our mother, Sara McKay. Sara suffered a stroke on October 6th, 2019 and was taken by ambulance to the hospital around 8:15 a.m.. She was airlifted to Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis and had surgery to remove the blood clot. Her right side has been affected, and her speech may be affected, but we do not know to what extent. She has been in the ICU since the 6th and is on a ventilator and feeding tube at this time. She is exhausted after her ordeal and is having trouble staying awake. She was never unconscious, but very sleepy.

She definitely knows what we are saying and is able to respond to some commands from the doctors and nurses. She keeps her eyes closed a lot, but that does not mean she is not listening. She has patted our hands and squeezed them, and has smiled when we make jokes. We sing and read to her, tell her the days events, and tell her the time and day. She is able to nod yes and shake her head no slowly. We got an exciting update tonight  (9:15 p.m. 10/10/19) that she has been awake for about 30 minutes with her eyes opening and closing. Her nurse tonight told us that she followed her commands, including waving with her left hand. We are so proud of her! Though we do not know how long a process this will be, we have faith that she will improve every day. The doctor is cautiously optimistic and told us that her brain scans look good.

Please continue to check this site for updates, as it is difficult for us to keep everyone updated. We know there are many, many people who love our mum! Please keep her in your prayers and send healing energy and light her way. We request that you write comments directly to her as we will read them to her daily. Thank you all for your love and support throughout this process.
