My beautiful daughter Sarah was diagnosed with breast cancer on Thursday August 3, 2017. Sarah requested a mammogram at her recent physical to get an early baseline and unfortunately it showed an area of concern that was confirmed as Invasive Ductal Adenocarcinoma following biopsies. We know it has already spread one lymph node so her course of treatment is dictated by that. She'll first go through chemotherapy (before surgery and radiation) in hopes of shrinking the tumors, potentially eliminating cancer in the lymph node, and addressing any potential cellular spread. With any luck they won't have to remove all the lymph nodes in her armpit when it comes time for surgery.
We're hoping her chemo will start Friday August 17th but if you can believe it we're waiting for her insurance company to approve the recommended treatments. Once she starts she will go through two moths of chemo using two specific drugs every other week. Then she'll have 3 months of treatment using one other drug. So 5 months of chemo followed by a rest period to allow her time to heal from that and for her immune system to catch up and then she'll have a lumpectomy to remove the area where the cancer is located. After she heals from surgery she'll have radiation M-F for 6-7 weeks.
