Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.
Sarah started her sophomore year at Auburn University majoring in Industrial and Systems Engineering with a minor in Supply Chain Management.  Her love for music brought to the Auburn University Marching Band  playing piccolo, Concert Band, and Flute ensemble. She enjoys being involved in Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and Tau Beta Sigma band service sorority.  Fast forward to February 23, 2018 when she went to the AU clinic for fatigue, shortness of breath when walking across campus, lightheaded feeling.  Thinking she was anemic they drew labs that came back abnormal: CBC, Liver enzymes, high iron, and others. Then she had a CT scan of the abdomen showing a slightly enlarged liver and pancreas. So further labs were drawn on Friday. On Saturday March 3rd she got a call from a Hematology Oncologist to meet her at the hospital that morning to discuss the lab results.  He called me with Sarah in the room and discussed the Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia diagnosis and explained they needed to get a Flow Cytometry/Immunophenotyping to confirm the diagnosis.  On Monday Sarah came home to wait for the phone call from the Oncologist in Auburn.  The  results of that came back around 4 pm March 6 and he referred her to UAB Oncology.  On March 7th we received a call from UAB that she needed to go to Children's of Alabama Benjamin Russell ER to be admitted to the Hematology Oncology unit for treatment of Acute Lymphoblastic Anemia.  So her Journey begins.
Thank you for visiting.
