Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. As many of you have already heard, my mom, Sandy Hope, had a mild heart attack Friday morning, March 26, and was airlifted to U of M Hospital. Just prior to this she had recently been diagnosed with severe aortic valve stenosis requiring a valve replacement. In preparation for the surgery she had a heart cath on March 17th that showed 2 major arterial blockages (one 80% the other 90%). She was home waiting for her surgeon here at U of M to receive final reports from the testing and call her with his surgical plan. Unfortunately her body made the decision regarding timing. At this time there are a couple things delaying an immediate intervention. She has some infection they would like to clear up (pneumonia and a UTI, both which we had no idea she had); also, she was given some blood thinner in Newberry to help her survive the heart attack and her body needs time to metabolize that completely to reduce bleeding risk during surgery. Right now Dr. Yang wants to try to wait until a week from Monday for surgery (an open heart procedure to replace the valve as well as perform a double bypass) ... timing subject to change if her condition worsens again. They said there will be daily discussions. She is in good spirits, and not in pain as she waits here in the hospital. I will keep this site updated with any changes in her situation. Thank you for visiting.
