As most of you know I’m a mother to three wonderful children and a full-time caregiver for a child I would consider my fourth. I am happily married and have been really healthy up to this point in my life. At the end of March, I was admitted into the hospital at Duke Raleigh with a blood infection, fluid on my right lung, and what they thought could be cancer of the breasts. Following a 10-day stay in the hospital and switching to Duke Durham during that stay, I went through several biopsies and many different tests which determined I had Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer in both breasts that has spread to my left eye, brain, and my lung.
Where do we go from here? Well, Duke has lead us through every step with positivity and extensive education. I start my brain radiation on April 23,  2020 that will last for five days. I will begin to take two pills following radiation; one being to shut down my ovaries and the other to slow my estrogen production which will hopefully slow the spread of my cancer due to it being estrogen positive.
All my updates and thoughts will be listed here if you would like to stay in the loop! It feels great knowing I’m not facing this alone.

With love,

Sandy
