Bubbie's journey started on January 3, 2017 at a routine follow up visit with her internist. A chest x-ray showed spots in both lungs. After many scans and two lung biopsies she has been diagnosed with lung cancer. We have met with several doctors to determine the best treatment for her. Treatment plans are individualized based on the diagnosis, stage and genetic makeup of your lung cancer. Fortunately there was a match and Bubbie was able to have immunotherapy (Keytruda).
On August 29, 2017 Bubbie had to switch treatments due to progression. She had 4 treatments of Keytruda/Carboplatin/Alimta. They have taken a toll on her body. She needed 2 platelet transfusions and 1 blood transfusion, and had fluid drained from her lungs.
On December 4, 2017 she had a scan that showed no progression therefore she has started a new treatment plan that will hopefully be kinder to her. She had the first treatment on December 12, 2017. Unfortunately, so far she has not felt well.
Sandy shows us her strength everyday with grace and determination. A true trooper. Bubbie appreciates all the overwhelming kindness, support, and love everyone has given. While trying to maintain as normal a life as possible, text or journal entries are preferred for supportive messages and lasting memories. Sandy is the same person she was before this diagnosis and requires only the same friendship and love.
Sandy loves hearing from her friends but needs rest. Your communication is best by text and or email. Thank you for your support.
