I was hesitant to set up this site but after a little soul searching decided that it was time to allow others to share in this journey. I think it took a while for the surprise, shock and reality to set in. Imagine the surprise when I received the call that totally changed my world -- Dr. John stating that "it's positive." What???!?!? This means that I have breast cancer . . . Wait, this means that I am a cancer patient .....this can't be real. What do I do, how should I react. I call in my warriors, my mom, my sister, my daughter, my friends and we join hands and hearts to say we can and will beat this! My daughter asked me what I was going to name my tumor - my instant response was "Felicia." To the tumor, we all say "Bye Felicia!"
I found the tumor during my own personal self-exam - but it didn't present like the "normal" or typical find. It hurt, it moved, it was oddly shaped - just not what is usually defined as cancerous. I found it in early October but had a family vacation planned; didn't think it was it something to be afraid of so I went on the vacation. We had a wonderful time in Disney World with the family. When we came back I finally scheduled my appointment . . . my doctor of over 30 years, Dr. John scheduled the biopsy for Monday the 5th of December. Results came on December 8th and my life was changed. Fear has always had a lot of power in my world but this is the one time that I did not, am not and will not let fear win! Had I, I would still be sitting here feeling that irregular shaped painful mass and thinking there was nothing wrong.
This site is just a way for all of us to share our journey as we go down this road. I look at this as a way to share love, positive, energy, and connect with family and friends. My story is about being a warrior and this is the place where we meet, gain strength and encourage each other because this is all about the living! Please share your words of hope and encouragement with me and all of the visiting warriors. Feel free to add stories of us, memes/pictures of us -- basically anything that you want to share with the world about our history together. Thank you for sharing.
