Thank you for visiting. Here is Karen's story: What initially seemed like bad indigestion (i.e., too much wine), turned out to be more than just a hangover. After weeks of being poked and prodded, scanned and x-rayed, and even being seen by a team of doctors in Milan by a live feed that would put NASA to shame, on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, Karen was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer that had spread to her liver. Writing that sentence - re-reading that sentence - even surrounded by all the buzzes and beeps that come with every hospital room - you can still hear a pin drop. It is truly a moment, forever on loop, where the world keeps coming to a halt. Your reality begins to shift and refocus, shift and refocus, shift and refocus, but nothing ever really becomes clear. The reality of seeing those words in print, of putting those letters in that particular order, of those otherwise innocuous symbols creating such a toxic reality, is surreal. But here is where things get real. If you are reading #SandlerStrong then you already know what you are subscribing to: NO PITY PARTIES! Just as those same letters make ugly words, they can also make beautiful, powerful words: STRENGTH; COURAGE; FEARLESS; FIGHTER; FAITH; SUPER WOMAN...KAREN. This page is dedicated to celebrating the power of positivity, the strength in family, and the love of friends.
