Sam has been one of the healthiest people I have ever known. He's rarely sick and if, by chance, he does get sick, he can usually sleep it away in a day or two. Sam tested positive for Covid-19 on December 29, 2020. His symptoms increased daily until we took him to the ER days later because his coughing was uncontrollable. CT, x-ray and blood work showed that while he did have covid, he had no pneumonia and was sent home with instructions to rest. His symptoms continued to worsen and in less than 72 hours later, Sam was taken away via ambulance because he couldn't breathe. Sam was admitted to the hospital with severe covid, fibroids and pneumonia in both lungs. He was immediately transferred to the ICU where he has remained in critical condition since January 7, 2021. Sam is on a non-invasive ventilation system that forces air into his lungs. His medical team has fought hard to keep from putting him on the full ventilator, due to several factors. The doctor told us we are on the most terrifying rollercoaster ride of our lives and he didn't exaggerate. After four weeks, two plasma infusions, countless steroids and antibiotics, many other medicines, including non-FDA approved drugs and antifungals, he is no longer backtracking. The doctors keep telling us Sam is young and has a fighting spirit. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
