Sami is a 17 year old junior at Ft. Zumwalt North High School. On Tuesday morning, January 8, she was headed home from her workout at Planet Fitness when she was involved in a very serious car wreck. She was airlifted to St. Louis Children's Hospital where she remains in the PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit). Sami has 6 broken ribs and 6 broken vertebrae in her back and additional in her neck area. Her pelvis is broken on both sides. Her right lung is punctured (from the broken ribs) and she has a contusion on her left lung. She has a severe traumatic brain injury. When she arrived at the hospital, they did a procedure where a bolt was inserted to track the pressure in her brain. That bolt has since been removed and the pressure is not a current concern. She has multiple stitches on the right side of her head.
