Welcome to our CaringBridge website, a place where we can keep our family and friends updated on Sam's medical journey.  We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.  As you may know, Sam was diagnosed with a Grade II Atypical Meningioma of the left frontal lobe of his brain in January 2020.  These tumors are in the middle of benign and malignant due to their ability to grow back rapidly and change. After surgery to remove his tumor, Sam had many complications, including a brain bleed and infection in the surgical site which caused loss of cognitive function and paralysis on his left side for many months.

Throughout the next year, Sam continued to amaze us all with his strength and ability to recover.  He regained his ability to walk and his cognitive function improved greatly.  In December 2020, Sam began having tonic-clonic seizures, formerly known as grand mal seizures. With additional medication, Sam was seizure-free for over 8 months but started having break-through seizures in the fall. His neurologist was concerned and moved up his MRI to see what might be going on. The scan showed regrowth of his original tumor, plus a new spot along the saggital sinus vein. The new tumor is considered inoperable due to its location.

We have met with a neurosurgeon at Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital who has referred us to a radiation oncologist for treatment options.  Sam is upbeat, but there is certainly a fear of the unknown .  As we know more, we will post it here.
