Thank you for stopping by and tuning into Salem's Story! We plan to use this space to share periodic updates as they arise regarding her health, her family, and anything else worth mentioning regarding her journey to FULL recovery.

June 18th, 2011 marked the first day of a new life for our beloved, Salem Amanuel. She was victim to a terrible hit-and-run accident in the city of Boston earlier that morning, escaping death by just a few seconds. If it wasn't for the ambulance response time,  the Trauma-1 Hospital which conveniently was located a few blocks from the scene of the crime, the brilliant doctors and nurses who tended to her care in the wee hours of the morning, and the glory of God, who gave her a second chance at life, she would not be here today. Easily.

This is not a happy story, nor is it an easy journey to share.

Salem is a highly revered, highly motivated and positive-minded person. She does not deserve her current reality and as a family, we have been extremely devastated by this surreal reality.  We have seldom shared stories and updates because quite frankly, we are private and this is traumatizing for us. Nobody ever prepares for something like this and it is an experience we pray our family and friends will never have to endure with their loved ones. Please bear with us as we navigate this new life.

On a lighter note, Salem is still here and still breathing! Though she has been in a persistent vegetative state for the last 5 years as our live-in Sleeping Beauty, she is not on life support! Her resilience paired with our families unwavering devotion, has allowed her to be at peace, remain comfortable, and to stay in the best shape possible (for someone in this condition). If you know our family, you know we always want the best for us and those around us. Not only do we pray for a full and speedy recovery, we want Salem to come out of this 200% better!

Please help us help her.

Thank You,
The Amanuel Family
