For some time, though I've been quite ill, I've thought that things would change in a gradual way. But in the last week, I've heard from my oncologist that there is less time remaining than I had expected. Essentially, my bone marrow no longer makes white blood cells, so I no longer have white cells, which are my body's immune system. While red cells and platelets can be transfused, white cells cannot be transfused because they will cause a massive transfusion reaction.
I am considering a course of chemotherapy which may or may not allow my immune system a chance to at least partially recover. However, the chemo itself is very risky for someone in my current condition, so this is a difficult decision to make.
Right now, as I attempt to make this decision, my primary need is for your prayers and good thoughts. Once I make the decision about chemo, I should have a better idea what I may need going forward. If you feel moved to help in other ways, I will soon begin asking for that. Here are some areas where I'm noticing that I may need additional support:
· Transportation to and from appointments, etc
· Shopping
· Meals/food prep (ask first, I have food allergies)
· Household chores
· Watering/yardwork
· A visit or a phone call
· Support to take an occasional outing
· ***Assistance keeping this site current to manage scheduling help when I need it (Is there an "organizational goddess" out there who finds this kind of task interesting?)
