On December 6, 2012 Sabrina was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and underwent surgery on December 11th. The tumor was the size of a football wedged between her pelvic bones. The surgeon called in another specialist and they proceeded to scrap it off the bones, removing the ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, omeum, appendix, a section of the small bowel and reconstructed her bowel with a part of her intestines. Since the initial surgery she has had 38 rounds of chemotherapy, 3 rounds of radiation and 2 additional surgeries removing her cervix and spleen. In August in addition to the cancer, Sabrina was diagnosed with paraneoplastic syndrome cerebebellar degeneration. Due to the paraneoplastic syndrome she is wheelchair bound as it affects her equilibrium, vision, speech and she has developed palsy in her limbs. The latest PET scan showed the chemotherapy is not working on the cancer spots on her liver, rectum, pancreas and lymph nodes. We kept her at home as long as we could with a team of loving caregivers, (Ami, Andrea, Carla, Dave, Kay, Robin and Teresa.) but in May 2016 Sabrina experienced a set back that put her in Glenwood Place Senior Living where she can receive the type of care that cannot be accomplished at home.
