Welcome to our CaringBridge website.   This website has been set up to keep family and friends updated in one place.  Please feel free to ask questions, post words of encouragement, photos, memories, etc. for Ryan on this page.

In late July, Ryan's family doctor ordered a CT scan to see if they could identify what was causing his ongoing headaches .  The CT scan showed a large mass in his left frontal lobe.  He was quickly scheduled for a follow-up MRI and  referred to a local neurosurgeon.   The follow-up MRI indicates that the tumor is a grade 2 or 3 oligodendroglioma and surgery will be necessary to have the tumor removed.  His local surgeon, Dr. Lockhead, referred him to UCSF in San Francisco.  The neurosurgeon performing his surgery will be Dr. Berger at UCSF.  Dr. Berger believes the tumor may have been growing for 15-20 years, which is a good sign that this tumor is non-aggressive.  Ryan is scheduled for brain surgery at UCSF on Monday, August 29th, but will be admitted early to the hospital on Friday, August 26th to begin steroid treatment to reduce swelling before going into surgery.

We will post updates and additional information as we have it as journal entries below.  We appreciate your ongoing  support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
