Hello friends, a sweet Nurse Jeremy shared this website with us. And we decided this would be a good way to share updates with you on our mom's journey! On 2/17 mom was having severe chest and neck pain. We called 911 and she was taken to the hospital! They did a full cardiac work up but most every test was negative. Although over the next few days she still had chest pain that was only relieved by nitro tablets. The cardiologist did a heart cath on Monday 2/20 and they found blockages on both sides of her heart. We spoke with the cardiac/ thoracic surgeon and mom decided to have the surgery. So on Thursday 2/23 she underwent the long 6 hour procedure. They ended doing a triple bypass! The surgery went well! They had a hard time getting her off the ventilator! Took twice as long as usual. Over the next several days her progress was quite a bit slower than expected. She was not swallowing properly so they placed a dobhoff feeding tube. She was also requiring more and more oxygen. We thought we had turned the corner Sunday when she sat on the side of the bed twice and was talking and more alert! But overnight she went into respiratory distress and she had to be incubated again! Over the last several days we have had our ups and downs! Even spoke with palliative care team regarding our mom's wishes if she did not improve with treatment! So her we are a week from surgery and we are still in ICU with mom on the vent, but through Gods grace and many prayers we are beginning to see small signs of improvement! Please see our updates on Ruthie's journey!
