Hi folks,

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.

It all started 10/22. She had her right hip replaced at Mercy Medical Center. She stayed one night there and was discharged the next day. I stayed the night with her and she started experiencing abdominal pain and eventually vomiting. I called her hip surgeon and they suggested going to the ER. We arrived at Howard County General Hospital on 10/24. It took a week to determine what was wrong and the treatment for it. In sum, they think her bowels went to sleep from the anesthesia and then her existing hiatal hernia “sucked” things (stomach, bowels, etc) up into her chest cavity and pinching them together causing a blockage. The hernia repair surgery was 11/5 and that was a success. 4 days in ICU and she was transferred to the step down unit. Then on 11/10 a nightmare happened and she experienced a bowel perforation and needed to have emergency surgery. The surgery was again a success. It’s day 4 in ICU.

The picture above is right after the hip surgery and she is high as a kite! She would kill me if I took a picture of her now.

Once she is out of the ICU she will except visitors.
