Rusty has been diagnosed with Non- Small Cell Lung Cancer that as we know today, has already metastasized into his brain. Also known as M1B stage IV lung cancer.
On March 2nd, Rusty was taken to Mercy Hospital in Mason City by ambulance with a blood clot on his right lung. After imaging they also discovered he had a mass on his right lung. The Doctors scheduled a bronchoscope for a few days later that discovered it was in both lobes if the lungs.
We met with a Pulmonary Oncologist Friday, March 15th to tell us that he had Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer in both lobes and it had metastasized into in brain with multiple masses. We had a PET scan this Wednesday, March 20th and are awaiting official results but the doctor said it looked positive.
We also met with a Radiologist Monday, March 18th, to address the brain masses immediately as they take top priority as the skull only has so much space.
Radiologist has set up radiation for the week of March 25th with 10 days worth of treatment which means we will need to be driving to Mason City daily over the next couple weeks.
