Rudy Poe Rudy's Road to Recovery

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family, friends, and supporters updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

______________

Rudy was in a car accident on Sunday, January 12th (Day 0). He suffered a brain injury, broken jaw, broken ribs, and various lacerations on his face and body. He regained consciousness on Monday the 13th (Day 1), and was able to respond to commands, squeeze hands, and indicate answers to questions. He had his breathing tube removed Tuesday the 14th (Day 2), and he had a successful jaw surgery later that day.  On Wednesday the 15th (Day 3), he was moved out of the Banner UMC’s ICU into their step down, Trauma unit.  This was all good news, but he is not out of the woods yet. This was just the beginning of Rudy' Road to Recovery.

On January 22 (Day 10), Rudy was transferred to Encompass Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility. He has been receiving occupational therapy, speech therapy, physical therapy, around the clock nursing care, and doctor’s visits.  We do not know when Rudy’s discharge date will be.  Regarding his Recovery, he has issues with cognition and motor control of his left side.  It is so early in his healing process that it is hard to project where Rudy will be in a year.  What we do know is we need your help to make sure there is a strong security net for Rudy.

We started a GoFundMe because Rudy had a lapse in health coverage and needed support for his living costs.  Within a week of starting the GoFundMe the first donation goal was met.  In addition, we found retroactive health coverage for Rudy.  We reduced our overall fundraiser amount.  But we also created new goals to support Rudy’s living costs for an entire year and unexpected medical costs.

We created the CaringBridge website to keep everyone updated in one place and are using the site to help manage his care.

Please imagine Rudy in his brightest form and help him get there!

Thank you for your support,

Lee Poe, Rudy’s Little Brother
