Rudi started having a lot of stomach pain in Spring of 2018. His first surgery was June 3, 2018 to remove a large tumor from his intestine. To remove the tumor was an important first step but not an easy one. He remained in the hospital for 6 weeks and then came home to recover. At the end of August 2018 he started what would be 6 months of chemotherapy. His spirits were good and he and Kat were determined (and still are) to fight this rare cancer. They call it duodenal cancer because of it's location at the beginning of his intestines. On 6/3/19 he had his 6th surgery related to this awful disease. At this point it was determined to be stage 4 cancer but as Kat says "we are Christians, and we believe in hope and miracles." Throughout this whole ordeal, Rudi has struggled with an unbelievable amount of physical pain. He returned to the hospital on June 27th and at this point is still there. He is on parenteral nutrition (it goes directly into his blood stream and avoids the stomach) but in the last few days he has started to be able to take liquids again. He has lost an extreme amount of weight.
