Rosemary Courtright Rosemary's Way

Rosemary Courtright was also known as:

~ Mum (to me, her daughter)
~ Rosie (to her childhood and softball friends)
~ Mother Rosie (to her Girl Scout mates)
~ The Terminator (to my husband and I)
~ A force of nature.

She was born in Whittier, California on October 2, 1946.

She passed away peacefully April 18, 2022 at her home on Bainbridge Island, after 14 days of using VSED - Voluntary Stopping Eating and Drinking.

She had been diagnosed with dementia and chose to use VSED rather than end life as her Mother did in an institution. She lived and died on her own terms.

My Mum was incredibly resolute, peaceful, strong, focused and positive through her entire VSED decision making and life-ending process. This set an example of what a beautiful death can look like to all who knew her or followed her story.

She loved many things, including walking, adventures, road trips, symphonies, the Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Oregon, red wine, martinis with no olives (a rare treat), weeding, eating nutritious, delicious food (especially desserts) and being with family.

You can learn more about the VSED process she used (Voluntary Stopping Eating and Drinking) with the resources listed in the April 10 entry.

I'm working on a book about our experience - reach out to me if you'd like to hear about it when it comes out, or to ask me quetsions: SpringCourtright@gmail.com / 360-265-2477

May we all remember Rosemary's Way and carry her with us wherever we go for the rest of our lives.
