Rose Marie was diagnosed with Bronchitis on January 7th. She had a follow-up visit on January 11th to be sure things were improving, but at that time was diagnosed with pneumonia. The next few days on the antibiotic did not bring improvement, swallowing the large pills was difficult, and breathing at times was labored. By Sunday evening (15th) a trip to the Emergency Room seemed in order. 


Once in the ER, Rose Marie's heart rate was high and kept jumping around. It was determined she would be admitted. The next day they drew @350 cc's of fluid off her lung. After some tests over a couple of days, it was determined that she also had fluid around her heart and AFIB. After consultation with doctors and all the options discussed, Rose Marie decided that she did not want to pursue treatment, especially when anesthesia was involved. (She had a difficult time with her last anesthesia.) The doctors could not give any promises and presented several scenarios that could give no relief or more challenging outcomes. Rose Marie made the decision for comfort care.


On Thursday, January 19th, she was transported by ambulance back home where Joanne is doing an amazing job taking care of her! She has wonderful support from Jennifer and Alyssa and a group of friends. Hospice is offering their services and have been fantastic with medicines, equipment, and support.

Joanne's main focus is spending every minute with her Mom and taking care of her. This will be the best place to receive updates and send messages of love and support. Her cell phone will largely be for coordinating Rose Marie's care.
