Roseann was taken to the ER on Saturday December 28th, and was diagnosed with viral pneumonia (Human metapneumovirus (HMPV)). She was intubated that night as her oxygen levels were dangerously low. This viral pneumonia was devastating to Roseann as she has severe asthma and an immune disorder. The Infectious Disease doctor described it as Roseann being hit by a freight train by this virus. On top of the viral pneumonia Roseann had other complications including going into septic shock, which then caused multiple complications. She was able to start breathing on her own a couple of days later, however, the virus caused her to be very weak. A week later she aspirated and coded from a "mucus plug" because she was too weak to cough up the mucus. The doctors were able to revive her and cleared her lungs with a small procedure in which they basically sucked out as much mucus as they could from her lungs. They performed the procedure one more time a couple of days later. After a week of being intubated (again), they took out the tube as she could breath on her own. Roseann is still very weak from the devastation this virus caused to her body. She has recovered from the virus, but will require extensive OT and PT to get herself back to where she was. This will require weeks and months of OT and PT, and since this is going to be a long road of recovery, we decided to start this site to keep everyone updated as much as possible. We will try to update this site daily and provide as much information as we can. Thank you to all who have supported us through this difficult time. We could not have made it to this point without all of you.
