Hi, This is Kim reporting on Rory.
Rory's story started on July 2nd 2017. He spiked a fever at 2am and was feeling very sick. I took him into the ER the next morning with what they thought was a simple sinus infection. He received a rocephin shot and an order of Augmentin to get on the mend and feel better. Monday morning started off with a small rash on his legs. No big deal. I called the pharmacy and they changed his antibiotic to a different on and labeled him allergies to PCN (penicillin). by Monday night the rash has spread to his trunk and chest and was getting darker. Tuesday morning he looked like he had 3rd degree burns on his body and was in a lot of pain. This made many trips to the ER and Dr for comfort from pain and to try and get this rash under control. Well this went on for 3 weeks of missed work and a very sick husband. He got a heavy heavy dose of steroids to finally give him comfort. Well he was not able to eat for over a week and had a strong metal taste in his mouth. This came with a HUGE weight lose. 53 lbs in 3 weeks!!! He was a little happy about his weight loss if anything that came out of this haha. He thought he was finally cured but with all of this also came that he is now a diabetic with high blood pressure and high cholesterol....MORE PILLS!!!! He was back to work the end of July but just didn't feel right and kept telling me that he just didn't feel right. He was getting weaker and weaker but it was blamed on his rapid weight loss and brushed off.....Fast forward to Friday Oct 13th. He went home from work with chills and fever. He was thinking just the flu but was still not better on Monday Oct 16th. I called Dr. Sumra in Cavalier and tried to get him in to see him but he had no openings. I told them that he had to be seen. I talked with Dr. S's nurse and she said the Dr will call me. He called back and I talked with him for a while. He said to bring Rory down right away and he will wait for us to get there as he was supposed to leave at 10. I told him that there is something very wrong with Rory and I want a CT scan done because something is just not right. We got to the hospital and he did his examination and immediately order a CT and admitted him. He was going to maybe gallbladder? We got transferred upstairs and tucked in........Now is where the nightmare begins. Dr Sumra came in and was teary eyed. He said that he had not very great news. The room got very hot and felt like I was having the worst dream of my life. He told Rory that he has Lymphoma Cancer....I can't tell you what was going through our heads. I still can't wrap my head around this!!! We were told he would be ambulanced to Grand Forks for biopsy to see what stage he was in. We got her yesterday afternoon. He has had some testing done and has found out that his liver is not working properly and he has a lot of fluid on his stomach and lungs. His blood is to thin to do the biopsy due to him being on baby aspirin and his blood pressure meds. He will receive Vit K shot and get a Plasma transplant today and have a biopsy tomorrow Oct 18th at 8am. This is up to date until the biopsy so I will update when I know more. Sorry for any bad grammer :) My head is not on right these last few days.....Keep Rory in your prayers and he is one of the toughest guys I know and I know he will beat this !!!
