In June 2013, Ron suffered a stroke. In the year following, he developed a cough and shortness of breath, and after many tests, was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Early in 2017, Ron started tests as an outpatient to determine if he was eligible for a lung transplant.
Ron's breathing was becoming more difficult and on Saturday, February 11, 2017, Ron was admitted to University of MN Medical Center in Minneapolis. He was diagnosed with RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus). He is currently in the ICU being treated for RSV and undergoing extensive testing to determine his eligibility for a lung transplant.
