Ronnie Humphrey

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.

We appreciate your interest in Ronnie’s condition! He woke up Saturday morning, 1/22/22, because of pain on the left side of his abdomen/trunk. By 2:45 that afternoon we became concerned that he was having another angioedema attack, so he gave himself a shot using his emergency angioedema med. The pain got worse and spread up into his shoulder making it very painful to breathe. We went to the Christus ER/hospital in South Tyler a little before 5:00 pm where a CT scan revealed an enlarged spleen. A normal spleen is about 12 cm and his is 23 cm!
PA said it’s splenic infarction. Here’s what I found online.

“Splenic infarction is a condition in which blood flow supply to the spleen is compromised, leading to partial or complete infarction (tissue death due to oxygen shortage) in the organ. Splenic infarction occurs when the splenic artery or one of its branches are occluded, for example by a blood clot.”

PA said it’s like heart attacks of the spleen - oxygen isn’t getting to the spleen and it causes it to DIE!! We have no idea what has caused this!

He was admitted to the main Christus hospital at about 9 am Sunday the 23rd. We are waiting to see a hospitalist and get a plan of action. I’ll update whenever there is a change of some sort. Thank you again for checking in. Please know that we deeply appreciate your prayers! Jana
