In spring of 2019, Ron was experiencing severe right leg pain, so after a few doctor visits he was sent in for a scan. The scan found a clot in his aorta and his right leg, consequently,  he received emergency surgery at St. Helena Hospital in early June.

The clots were removed and sent to the lab. When the pathology came back, we learned the clots were metastatic cancer from an unknown source. We immediately began working  with a medical team to figure out next steps. The subsequent scans found cancer in five additional locations.  At this point, we don't have a clear understanding of how to proceed because we don't know what kind of cancer we're dealing with. Ron has undergone two emergency surgeries to remove clots from his legs.

We don't know what the prognosis is--how much time we may have.

I've started this Caring Bridge site to keep family and friends updated weekly. As you can imagine, the time and emotional energy it takes to navigate this process is overwhelming. I appreciate everyone's support and ask that you refer to this site rather than calling or texting for information.  We will share everything we're comfortable sharing here.

Love,
Margaret
