As many of you already know, our dad was diagnosed in August will Guillain Barre Syndrome. He was perfectly healthy one day and in a matter of 3 days was completely paralyzed from head to toe. Over the past 3 months, he has done extensive therapy and has made huge progress, but still has a long way to go. We praise the Lord for the progress he has already made and know that he will continue the healing process in the days and months to come.
Unfortunately, over the past few days, we have been handed another trial. Early last week, mom went to the Emergency Room in Defiance with severe stomach pain. After some tests and scans, a spot on the pancreas was discovered that was concerning. She was transferred to Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital where they would try to manage her pain while they ran more tests and prepared for a biopsy. Once the biopsy was completed and she was able to prove she could tolerate a clear diet, she was released to come home and spend Thanksgiving with our family. After a few days, the pathology report came back and confirmed our worst fear - pancreatic cancer that has metastasized to the liver. We have an appointment scheduled with oncology in the next couple of days to discuss specific details as it relates to the diagnosis.
While this news is heartbreaking and at times, feels like more than we can bear, we are finding rest in the arms of our Heavenly Father. Mom continues to be a rock and steadfast in her faith and constantly reminds us that God is so GOOD! She has assured us she has peace and that Jesus is enough. We may never understand His timing in all of this, but we are leaning on Him and trusting Him to be enough. We continue to pray for a miracle, but we are reminded that God's ways are higher than ours and if she doesn't receive healing on this side of Heaven, then she will receive her ultimate reward - eternity with Jesus! Please pray specifically for pain management, alleviated nausea, and that she can feel good enough to enjoy time with her family.
"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed." Psalm 34:18
